Congratulatory messages are pouring in for the latest heroine of South Africa, Tatjana Smith (27) for winning the first gold medal for the country at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Smith started the women’s breaststroke 100m race slow just behind China’s Qianting Tang and Ireland’s Mona McSharry, on the return, Tatjana turned up the heat and was flowing through the water at high pace and led the race.
Tatjana touch the wall at 1:05.28, making her the winner of the race and earning her a gold medal. Tang came in at 1:05.54, earning her a silver medal while McSharry clocked 1:05.59, earning her a bronze medal.
