The younger population of South Africa seem to have low interest in participating in voting, this poses a cause for worry regarding the future of the country. The Electoral Commission (IEC) in the Free State Province is at pains in turning the tide around.
The IEC will tomorrow, 31 July 2024, launch the annual tertiary institution campaign in Sasolburg at Flavius Mareka TVET College, where the Commission will engage the youth of the country on democracy education and encourage participation in the electoral process.
The IEC says the event will expose over 300 young people in Sasolburg and surrounding areas to various electoral processes.
The Free State province has not been immune from the low turnout or registration to vote by young people. Some decide to stay away and not participate on Election Day, while others do register but never show up to cast their vote.
The IEC in the Free State says this initiative will assist the youth to improve their understanding and participation in the country’s democratic processes.
