The president of Rwanda H.E Paul Kagame is taking no prisoners; he is not pulling any punches as he expressed his frustration over the conflict unfolding in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Kagame dared all leaders affected and involved in the conflict to reflect truthfully on what is actually happening in the DRC, and stop allowing themselves to be manipulated by the DRC President H.E Felix Tshisekedi.
He said playing nice to each other and pretending as if all is well is not going to solve the problem; Tshisekedi has mastered the art of manipulation and has personnel specialising on that. Kagame lashed out on African leaders saying he saw the conflict coming long time ago, but eastern African leaders ignored it, hence the situation today.
He said those who are involved, including the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and South Africa are only there for their own interests, and not that of the people on the ground.
Paul Kagame accused the president of South Africa of pretending to be something while he is actually something else.
“I spoke to the President of South Africa who sought me out to speak with me on this matter because of their involvement in eastern Congo, and he is also there pretending to be playing a peace-maker role, and he has a force that has been fighting alongside FDLR and has been fighting the M23 on the instructions of Tshisekedi because these are people who are not supposed to be in Congo,” said an upset Kagame.
He ventured to clear the confusion that the M23 rebel group is Rwandan. “These are not Rwandans, please! These are Congolese, one time he accepts it, then the other time he says ‘no part of it is yes and the other is from Rwanda’,” he remarked.
Kagame questioned why are African leaders allowing this to go on forever, allowing themselves to be manipulated by Tshisekedi and whoever is supporting him.
“And South African dares to even issue threats about what is likely to happen after that and so on and so forth, of cause we will see what threats they are talking about; maybe they should have done that exactly for which they have issued threats, they should have done it to clean up the mess in eastern Congo or to fight back those who have been trying to clean up the mess,” said Kagame.
