The Free State permanent delegates to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) will assess progress in confronting the challenges facing the timely Delivery of viable Public Infrastructure to Communities Progress.
Planned site visits include Matjhabeng Municipality, Odendaalsrus and Welkom visit to incomplete, delayed, or abandoned infrastructure projects.
The programme will take place under the theme “Confronting the challenges facing the timely delivery of viable public infrastructure to communities.” It forms part of the oversight function by the NCOP’s National Provincial Week programme.
On Tuesday, 17 September 2024, the programme will feature a physical meeting and presentations regarding the provincial and municipal infrastructure through a hybrid meeting at the Free State Legislature in the Fourth Raadsaal focussing on progress in confronting the challenges facing the timely delivery of viable public infrastructure to communities.
There will also be a briefing regarding the state of provincial and municipal infrastructure and programmes and initiatives addressing issues.
On Wednesday, 18 September, the delegation will conduct site visits in Welkom and Odendaalsrus to check the status of hostels, and the police station, respectively. Also, the delegation will later visit Thandanani Clinic and Kopana hospital complex in Welkom.
Delegates will then on Thursday, 19 September, visit construction of Tweespruit to Excelsior road, the Thaba Nchu Piggery Project and the unfinished water project in Botshabelo’s Sections U and W. Planned visits will also see the delegation going to Mangaung Dark/Silver City, Overhaul, modernisation, and expansion of Park Road Police Station in Mangaung and finally Bloemfontein Taxi Rank.
The following are expected to brief the permanent delegates together with Members of the Provincial Legislature (MPLs): The Premier; MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure; MEC for Co-operative Government, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs; Mayors of Waterberg District Municipality as well as Lephalale, Thabazimbi and Mogalakwena local municipalities; South African Local Government Association, the Auditor-General and the Department of Water and Sanitation.
