Chiefs win their league opener

Kaizer Chiefs earned a confidence booster going into the new season by beating Marumo Gallants in Bloemfontein, at the Toyota Stadium on Saturday evening.

Kaizer Chiefs has made some few structural changes with the aim of turning their fortunes around and start winning games and even a trophy this season, following a long dry season for the team.

Going into the game with Marumo Gallants, the Glamour Boys had a point to prove and inspire confidence to their supporters. Playing in front of a full to capacity stadium, Gallants became threatening from the first whistle and were reward on the 8th minute when Sekela Sithole scored the opening goal of the match.

It took Amakhosi a while to warm up to the match, but soon after the first goals, Amakhosi pushed back, making brilliant runs and creating threatening scoring opportunities but their finish was not accurate.

Kaizer Chiefs kept knocking in search of an equaliser; Mduduzi Shabalala found the back of the net on the 17th minute, levelling the field for both teams. Chiefs could have scored more goals in the first half but missed all the golden opportunities.

The match went to break with a one all draw.

In the second half, Marumo Gallants were now under pressure as the Glamour Boys came hard on the offensive and even forcing an offense where Joseph Malongoane was sent off the pitch on the 76th minute, with a man down, Gallants was vulnerable and Kaizer Chiefs capitalised on it.

From outside the box, with a strike into the left corner of the net, Mfundo Vilakazi scored the winner for Kaizer Chiefs on the 79th minute.

The game ended with Kaizer Chiefs leading 2-1.

Amakhosi are currently sitting number one on the PSL log with three points having won their first PSL match.
