Ladies from the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure are set to be treated to much appreciation and recognition for their efforts within the department. In commemoration of International Women’s Day, MEC Dibolelo Mance will today, Tuesday, 25 March 2025, host an event to celebrate the women in her department.
In recognition of International Women’s Day (IWD), MEC Dibolelo Mance will lead a commemorative event with women in the department, reaffirming the government’s commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women in the workplace.
Observed worldwide, International Women’s Day is a tribute to the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, transcending national, ethnic, and economic boundaries. In South Africa, this celebration is deeply rooted in the principles of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, Act 108 of 1996, and the Employment Equity Act (EEA), No. 55 of 1998, both of which advocate for equal opportunities and fair treatment in employment
This year’s theme, “For All Women and Girls’ Rights, Equality, and Empowerment,” as declared by the United Nations, underscores the urgency of dismantling systemic barriers and biases that hinder women’s progress. The event will highlight the strides made in promoting employment equity and ensuring equitable representation across all occupational categories and levels in the workforce.
MEC Mance emphasised the significance of collective action in achieving true gender equality.
“The role of women in shaping our nation’s development cannot be overstated. As a government, we remain committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where all women are given equal opportunities to thrive,” she stated.
Through this commemoration, the department seeks to inspire meaningful dialogue, advocate for stronger policies, and reaffirm its dedication to eradicating gender-based discrimination in all professional spheres. The celebration will serve as a call to action, urging both the public and private sectors to accelerate progress toward a more just and equitable society for all.
The commemoration will be held at City Hall, in Bloemfontein from 11am.
