According to the Department of Water and Sanitation’s (DWS) Weekly State of Reservoir Report, the Free State water levels are currently at 82.5% a big drop from last year’s 97.4% summary on water storage.
Fika-Patso Dam dropped from last year same time at 78.3% to this week’s 59.2% level. Metsi-Matsho Dam recorded 81.5% this week, a drop from last year’s 83.8%.
Gariep Dam is at 79.0.0%, a decline compared to last year’s 97.1%. Vanderkloof Dam is currently sitting at 98.9 % a slight decrease from 99.7% last year.
Thabo Mofutsanyane District capacity is at 87.5%, a decline from last year 101.0%. Mangaung Metro is reflecting a decline, as the water storage is at 86.9 % capacity this week as compared to last year same time when it was at 98.8%
The Xhariep District dropped from 98.2% last year to 86.7% this year, same time. In Fezile Dabi District water capacity is at 72.2% as compared to 97.3% last year. Lejweleputswa District is at 87.5% with a decline from last year’s 101.0%.
Krugersdrift Dam also decreased from 100.7% last year to 91.8% capacity this week. Sterkfontein Dam reached a slight decline capacity of 98.5% this week compared to last year 101.1% same time.
The Department of Water and Sanitation would like to urge all water users to use water sparingly as water levels continue to decline due to lack of rains.
