As tensions continue in the Middle East, Israel enjoys a strong alliance with powerful countries from the global west that have thrown their weight behind Israel and are ready to defend it against Iran.
In a joint statement, the United States of America, United Kingdom, Italy, France and Germany said they are for a cease fire in Gaza and will continue efforts to bring the conflict to an end.
“We expressed our full support for on-going efforts to de-escalate tensions and reach a ceasefire and hostage release deal in Gaza,” read the statement.
The countries said they endorsed the joint call from President Biden, President Sisi of Egypt, and Amir Tamim of Qatar to renew talks later this week with an aim to concluding the deal as soon as possible, and stressed there is no further time to lose.
To keep the deal in place, the heads of states said all parties involved must live up to their responsibilities; coupled with that, uninterrupted aid is needed in Gaza.
The countries came out strong in support of Israel against Iran and called on Iran to refrain from its military threats against Israel.
“We expressed our support for the defense of Israel against Iranian aggression and against attacks by Iran-backed terrorist groups. We called on Iran to stand down its on-going threats of a military attack against Israel and discussed the serious consequences for regional security should such an attack take place,” read the statement.
