Zimbabwe takes over the Chairship of SADC

The Republic of Angola is expected to officially handover its Chairship to the Republic of Zimbabwe during the 44th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government on 17 August, 2024.

Zimbabwe will be hosting the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) summit from 13 to 17 August 2024, as the Chair of the region. The country officially assumed the Chairship on 8 August during the SADC Standing Committee of Senior Officials..

The summit comes amidst outcries against Zimbabwe for human rights violations and its citizens crying for intervention from the region.

Heads of States in the region including H.E Cyril Ramaphosa from South Africa and his Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Mr Ronald Lamola have arrived in Zimbabwe for the summit. The SADC Summit will be held under the theme: “Promoting Innovation to Unlock Opportunities for Sustained Economic Growth and Development towards an Industrialised SADC.”
