Parties to debate SOPA

Political parties in the Free State Provincial Legislature will today be afforded an opportunity to reply to the Premier’s State of the Province Address (SOPA) held last week Thursday, in Bloemfontein.

The Speaker of Legislature Hon. Mxolisi Dukwana has convened a sitting on Tuesday, 13 August 2024, whereby party representatives in Legislature will get to ventilate their views on Premier Ms MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae’s speech during the SOPA.

The Premier outlined her plans for the province where she said her term in office will constitute a different five years, it will be five years of service delivery and putting the people of the Free State first, she said roads will be fixed and jobs will created in order to revitalize the economy of the province.

Letsoha-Mathae also vowed to deal with corruption within government and recover the monies paid to contractors who did not deliver any services. The public health sector will be one of her focus areas during the five years, to improve services at hospitals and clinics.

Some of the political parties in the Free State, like the Democratic Alliance (DA) have cast doubt on the feasibility of some of the plans of the Premier questioning if MaQueen will be able to deliver as there is no budget and no resources to achieve what she is saying.

The DA further pointed to her failures while MEC for Community Safety, Roads and Transport.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) also questioned her genuineness with her plans as she seems to be bias and blind to talent while pushing political agendas evident in her reshuffling strategy of HODs where she removed high qualified people from strategic positions.

All parties will get to react to the Premier’s speech today afternoon at 14: 15pm at the Chamber of the Fourth Raadsaal, Bloemfontein.
