Julius Malema has returned as the party’s Commander In Chief (CIC), his election was however no surprise as the writing was on the wall. The new top six features three new leaders and three retaining their sits.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) kicked off its third National People’s Assembly (NPA) on Friday, 13 December 2024, at Nasrec Expo Centre, Johannesburg; whereby the return President of the EFF Julius Malema gave a lengthy high level academic report of the organisation to end his term.
On Saturday, the delegates from across the country made their voices heard as they chose their leadership unopposed including the 60 additional members to the Central Command Team (CCT).
One of the controversial look outs at the NPA was whether or not Mbuyiseni Ndlozi will show face; but Malema spoke out defiantly and confirmed that Ndlozi is not present and that anyone that was not supposed to be present from the onset is not in attendance, he went on to say that the EFF will no longer entertain the Ndlozi nonsense during a media briefing.
There are unconfirmed reports that Ndlozi has been suspended for an undisclosed reason; the suspension was strategic so that he may be prevented from running for nomination as Deputy President and give way to Godrich Gardee.
The Assembly nominated Julius Malema to continue leading the party as its President unopposed. Godrich Gardee was elected Deputy President, replacing Floyd Shivambu who has now deflected to the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP); which is a new election. Omphile Maotwe retained her position as Treasurer of the EFF. A new nomination was added, as Nontando Nolutshungu was elected National Chairperson, replacing Veronica Mente.
Marshall Dlamini retained his position as Secretary General; and has a new deputy; Leigh-Ann Mathys, who was the party’s spokesperson, has been elected Deputy Secretary General.
