Load-shedding has been eroding on the country’s economy and continues to be a threat to investment. Though South Africa has been able to attract some investors amidst the energy crisis; the continued energy challenge may discourage further investment into the country, hence making it imperative to deal with it urgently.
By far, power cuts have cost South Africa over R1 billion a day, some small businesses had to shut their doors because it was now becoming too expensive to operate their businesses, as such, hundreds of people lost their jobs.
The Minister in the Presidency responsible for Electricity Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa will today engage the business community in KwaZulu-Natal with the aim to find solutions in the electricity challenge. Ramokgopa says the energy sector is facing serious challenges and has implications to business, households and the economy at large.
Business will get an opportunity to express their frustrations and share their perspective and possible solutions to the energy challenge. The event will kick off at 10am at the Durban Exhibition Centre.
