Edgar Legoale Foundation Launches Primary School Tour with Ngwathe Executive Mayor to Restore Learner Dignity

TUMAHOLE, FREE STATE – In a sustained effort to champion educational support and youth development, the Edgar Legoale Foundation has officially announced the continuation of its Tumahole Schools Tour Programme. Shifting its focus to primary education, the Foundation is launching a targeted school shoe handover initiative aimed at restoring dignity and fostering academic confidence among the region’s youngest learners.

This primary school outreach follows the successful rollout of “Project 100 Schools,” a collaborative venture previously executed alongside the Bakgethwa Foundation.

Strategic Partnerships for Educational Impact

The next phase of the tour is being undertaken in close coordination with the local government. Councillor Victoria De Beer-Mthombeni, the Executive Mayor of the Ngwathe Local Municipality, is leading the programme alongside the Foundation.

Launch Details:

• Venue: Selokgilwe Primary School

• Date: Thursday, 11 June 2026

• Time: 07h30

Mayor De Beer-Mthombeni, an MBA graduate and an outspoken advocate for youth empowerment, has long maintained that strategic investments in early education are vital to unlocking the full potential of local youth. According to the Foundation, her active participation underscores a shared civic commitment to improving learner well-being throughout the Ngwathe community.

The launch event at Selokgilwe Primary School will feature interactive learner engagement sessions, motivational speeches, and the formal distribution of new school shoes.

Expanding the Footprint across Tumahole

Following the inaugural launch at Selokgilwe, the Edgar Legoale Foundation will systematically roll out the school shoe handover across several participating primary institutions in the region. The targeted schools include:

  • Aha Setjhaba Primary School
  • A.M. Lembede Primary School
  • Ntshwephepha Primary School
  • Lister Skosana Primary School
  • Botjhabatsatsi Primary School
  • Sindekile Primary School

“Investing in learners at an early stage is essential in building future leaders and strengthening communities,” stated Mr. Edgar Legoale, Chairperson of the Foundation. “As we continue our journey into primary schools, we remain committed to ensuring that every child feels valued, supported, and inspired to achieve their full potential.”

Building on Secondary School Success

The primary school drive acts as a direct sequel to the Foundation’s recent secondary school intervention. On 27 May 2026, the organization partnered with the Department of Education and the Bakgethwa Foundation to host a Grade 12 motivation drive at Phehellang Secondary School.

Operating under the banner “Walking With Purpose, Inspiring Greatness,” that initiative successfully engaged over 1,000 matriculants across Parys and Vredefort, providing them with critical mentorship and academic encouragement ahead of their final examinations.

By shifting the intervention strategy from matric motivation to primary school material support, the Foundation is effectively addressing both ends of the basic education spectrum. Providing adequate footwear serves a dual purpose: it eliminates a tangible socio-economic barrier to school attendance while boosting the psychological well-being of the children.

Members of the media and community stakeholders have been invited to attend the launch at Selokgilwe Primary School to witness the rollout of an initiative that continues to shape the educational landscape of Tumahole.
