In a very brief statement and without revealing much, the Presidency has confirmed that the Deputy President of South Africa Mr Paul Mashatile is well after a health scare at the N’waMitwa Day Celebrations held at Valoyi Cultural Village, Greater Tzaneen, Mopani District, in the Limpopo Province on Saturday, 14 September 2024.
Mashatile gave the country a scare when, during his keynote address collapsed. The concern started when he took an unnatural long pause during his speech and seemed weak losing balance, he tried to continue but fell, however, his security details was swift to catch him before hitting the ground and whisked him off stage and away from the people where he received medical attention.
The Acting Spokesperson to the Deputy President Mr Keith Khoza affirmed the nation that there is nothing to worry about as Paul Mashatile is well.
“While delivering his keynote address, the Deputy President felt lightheaded from the heat and was attended to by his medical team. We can confirm that the Deputy President has received the necessary medical attention and is well,” said Khoza.
Weather Services shows that temperatures in Tzaneen reached a high of 36°, it is speculated that the cause of the Mashatile’s collapse was due to dehydration resultant from the oppressive heat in the province.
Furthermore, Keith Khoza told the media that the doctors ordered the Deputy President to take it easy, as he was working very hard during the last seven days; he said Mashatile will continue with his work but at a reduced rate. He said the Deputy President is currently resting and making his way to a full recovery.
