Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi quits parliament

To most, the writing has been on the wall following the National People’s Assembly (NPA) of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in December 2024, where the charismatic people’s bae was a no show.

Leigh-Ann Mathys, the National Spokesperson of the EFF confirmed on Thursday, 9 January 2025, in a statement that two of its members of parliament, Yazini Tetyana and Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi have voluntarily resigned from parliament.

Emphasizing the voluntary aspect, Mathys said their resignations were submitted to the Secretary General of the party and were sent within days of each other, and that the party has since accepted the voluntary requests to be released from deployment in parliament.

Though there is speculation about Ndlozi’s resignation, that he was pushed out from the party, the statement seems to suggest that there was no foul play, all was voluntary. Ndlozi’s resignation is met with mixed-emotions, while others feel that he made the right decision by resigning from the alleged toxic environment he was in, some feel that the EFF should have done better to keep him as a deployee.

All eyes are on the people’s bae to see whether he will eventually quite the EFF all together or remain an ordinary member at branch level. Will the EFF still use his expertise or will let him die a natural death and let history forget him? Will the EFF relegate one of its star members to its political dustbin for eternity or will they eventually mend things with the Dr?

Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has served the EFF in parliament since 2014 and has made a significant contribution towards the politics of South Africa. Tetyana first served in the Eastern Cape Legislature and later moved to parliament.

The EFF has since wished both fighters well on their new endeavours.
