Defaulting customers of CENTLEC in Mangaung Metro will fall on their sword as the utility is taking action against them by disconnecting them from the electricity grid. The customers include residential, business and government entities.
The Spokesperson of CENTLEC Lele Mamatu has confirmed in a statement that CENTLEC has commenced the process of disconnecting electricity for all defaulting customers within the Mangaung supply area. He said the affected customers fall into various categories, including residential, business, and government entities.
Mamatu said, in accordance with CENTLEC’s approved policies and municipal guidelines, electricity services shall be disconnected for customers with outstanding debts to CENTLEC. The robust disconnection initiative is a necessary step to ensure the sustainability and efficiency of essential services provided to the community.
“CENTLEC has made multiple efforts to engage with defaulting customers through its approved Credit Control and Debt Collection Policy. This includes issuing of disconnection notices for overdue accounts. Despite these efforts, a significant number of accounts remain unpaid, which negatively impacts CENTLEC’s ability to continue delivering quality services. While disconnection is not our primary goal, we urge customers to make timely payments to avoid service interruptions.
We emphasize that this measure is not targeted at any specific individuals or groups but is a routine credit control process conducted monthly, as stipulated by our policies. We appreciate the public’s cooperation and understanding in addressing these matters. Together, we can ensure the continued provision of vital services to our communities,” said Lele Mamatu.
