The President of the United States of America (USA) and Democrat Joe Biden has pulled out of the race for a second term in office and has since endorsed his Vice Kamala Harris as nominee for presidency.
On 18 July 2024, Biden announced that he is sick with COVID; he later on Sunday announced that he has decided to focus his energies on completing his term as President and will no longer run for re-election.
To some, Biden stepping down is a relieve as they have been calling for him to step down citing his age amongst other things. However, him stepping down might affect funding for the presidential campaign.
Joe Biden said he has worked well with Harris over the years since 2020 and has never regretted his choice in choose her as his Vice President. As such, he throws all his weight behind Kamala Harris and endorses her name as party nominee ahead of the party’s convention in August.
Harris has since accepted the endorsement by Biden and said she has every intention to earn and win the nomination. She said she will do everything in her power to unite the Democratic Party and the nation; and defeat opposition party Republican Presidential hopeful Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.
Kamala Harris will however not go unchallenged within the party, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has raised her hand to run for Presidency as well and get the Democrats elected and stop Trump in his tracks.
Whitmer has committed herself following the announcement by President Biden to quit the race for re-election, that she will continue with the same agenda that Biden was pushing, that of addressing the challenge of climate change, bring supply chains closer to the people, fixing roads, lowering prescription drugs costs and defeat Trump.
Gretchen Whitmer spared no punches in discrediting Donald Trump calling him a convicted felon whose agenda is to raise family costs, ban abortion nationwide and abuse the power of the White house to settle his own scores is completely wrong for Michigan.
