The Bloemfontein based Football Club Marumo Gallants has confirmed in a statement that it has received court papers last week Friday, initiated by Moroka Swallows.
The week opened with news that Moroka Swallows has cancelled its Betway Premiership status sale to Maromu Gallants due to the Football Club failing to meet its contractual obligation. It is widely reported that Swallows sold its status for R40 million to Gallants, and the deal was for Gallants to pay R20 million upfront, then followed by R20 million broken down into two trenches.
According to reports by the SABC, the team paid the first R20 million, but failed to pay the R10 million.
In a brief statement, Marumo Gallants confirmed receipt of court document last week Friday but further declined to comment on the matter stating that it is sub judice.
“At this stage, as the matter is now before the court, the Club will not be making any further public comments nor will it be participating in media interviews regarding this issue. Marumo Gallants FC respects the legal processes and will allow the matter to proceed through the appropriate judicial channels.
The Club would like to assure its supporters, partners and stakeholders that operations continue as normal. Management, technical staff and players remain fully focused on preparations and on-going commitments for the remainder of the season,” said the Spokesperson for the Club Sello Nduna.
“Marumo Gallants FC appreciates the continued support and understanding from its fans and partners during this time. Further communication will be issued if and when appropriate. The team’s attention remains firmly on football matters as preparations continue for the upcoming fixture on the 1st of March 2026 against Durban City,” concluded Nduna.
