Mr. Hassan, aged 80, passed away on Monday, September 7, 2026, while undergoing medical treatment for a cardiac condition. Beyond his prominent role as First Gentleman, Mr. Hassan was widely recognized for his distinguished career as an agricultural academic and dedicated agriculturalist.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, President Ramaphosa expressed his personal solidarity with President Hassan, her children, and the broader family during this time of mourning. He also conveyed formal sympathies to the government and people of the Republic of Tanzania, noting the country’s prominent legacy as a founding member state of the regional body.
