South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will host his Zimbabwean counterpart, President Emmerson Mnangagwa, in Pretoria on Friday, 21 August 2026, for the Fourth Session of the South Africa–Zimbabwe Bi-National Commission (BNC).
The summit marks a key moment in ongoing diplomatic and economic ties between the neighbouring nations. Established in April 2015, the BNC serves as the foundational structure governing strategic cooperation and bilateral relations between Pretoria and Harare. Over the course of its operation, the commission has driven the implementation of more than 33 agreements and memoranda of understanding spanning multiple critical sectors.
The high-level discussions will focus on expanding bilateral trade and investment, advancing regional infrastructure projects, and promoting broader economic development to foster shared growth.
During the Fourth Session, the two Heads of State plan to evaluate current progress on past bilateral pledges while finalizing new commitments. The event is expected to close with the formal signing of several new bilateral agreements and memoranda aimed at strengthening strategic integration.
Preparations for the presidential summit have been laid through a structured series of preliminary meetings. Senior Officials convened on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, followed by a Ministerial Meeting designed to draft the technical framework and agenda for consideration by the two leaders. The talks underscore both governments’ commitment to maintaining structured engagement and aligning economic priorities across the Southern African region.
