The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Metsimaholo Local Municipality, Free State is lamenting the conditions of roads infrastructure in the municipality and has ventured to launch a petition on the deteriorating conditions as they pose a threat to the lives of motorists and the economy itself.
Jacques Barnard, a DA Councillor in Metsimaholo Local Municipality says the party will launch a petition on the deterioration of the road infrastructure, the countless potholes, and unsafe driving conditions. Barnard says this is a direct consequence of the continued failure of service delivery in Metsimaholo under African National Congress (ANC) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) governance.
“The roads not only jeopardise the lives of motorists and pedestrians but also hamper economic activity. Metsimaholo contravenes Section 83 of the Municipal Systems Act and Sections 24, 156, and 229 of the South African Constitution by not maintaining municipal road infrastructure.
Metsimaholo and Sasolburg residents are increasingly being forced to drive on dangerous roads, risking damage to their vehicles and harm to themselves,” said Cllr Jacques Barnard.
Cllr Barnard says despite repeated complaints and demands for immediate action, there has been no visible response or long-term plan to deal with these issues.
“We call on Metsimaholo Local Municipality and local government officials to take action. We will continue pushing as much pressure as possible to achieve this basic service delivery to all residents,” concluded the Cllr.
