Sibanye-Stillwater Retains Spot in Prestigious FTSE4Good Index, Reinforcing ESG Focus

JOHANNESBURG — Precious metals producer Sibanye-Stillwater (JSE: SSW, NYSE: SBSW) has confirmed its continued inclusion in the FTSE4Good Index Series, maintaining its standing among global firms recognized for strong environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices.

Created by global index and data provider FTSE Russell, the FTSE4Good Index Series measures the performance of companies that meet rigorous ESG standards. Market participants widely utilize these indexes to construct and benchmark responsible investment funds and related financial products.

To maintain inclusion, companies are evaluated across a range of operational criteria managed by FTSE Russell, including corporate governance, health and safety standards, anti-corruption measures, and climate change strategies.

“We are pleased to retain our inclusion in the FTSE4Good Index, reflecting our continued focus on integrating sustainability into our business and maintaining transparent reporting for stakeholders,” said Richard Stewart, Chief Executive Officer of Sibanye-Stillwater.

The retaining of its FTSE4Good status highlights the Johannesburg- and New York-listed company’s attempt to position itself as a sustainable operator within the resource sector. Sibanye-Stillwater is a major global player in platinum group metals (PGMs)—including platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium, and ruthenium—and remains a top-tier gold producer.

In recent years, the group has expanded its operational scope beyond primary extraction to encompass battery metals such as nickel, chrome, copper, silver, cobalt, and zinc, alongside expanding its recycling and secondary mining footprint across five continents.

ESG performance has increasingly become a critical metric for institutional investors, particularly in the mining and extraction industries where environmental impacts and safety performance face rigorous market scrutiny. Continued representation in indices like FTSE4Good provides a key signal to capital markets that a producer’s operational frameworks align with international ESG benchmarks.
