Chiefs steals Pirates’ thunders

It was a one all draw but it feels like a win for Kaizer Chiefs as they managed to reduced Orlando Pirates’ chances of winning the league.

Both teams played to an entertaining game showing intention to win the game. The Soweto giants locked horns at the FNB Stadium on Sunday, 26 April 2026. Fans came in their numbers to witness for themselves and support their clubs to win. It was a must win for the Sea Robbers, however, the Glamour Boys had a different idea.

Amakhosi kicked off the game, soon after the Buccaneers went on an offensive making heart-stopping shots at goal, however, Brandon Peterson was up for the task, making brilliant saves and keeping his team in the game.

The game went to break with a goalless draw.

In the second half, Chiefs was the first to register on the score sheet, breaking the deadlock on the 62nd minute, when Duba broke free making a run towards Pirates goals, and unselfishly passed the ball to Mmodi who made a clinical finish.

The Buccaneers pushed back, they applied pressure on Amakhosi and were finally rewarded with just 15 minutes left on the clock, when from a rebound from Peterson, Sebelebele was there to pick up the loose ball and blasted it into the net, levelling the game for his team.

The game ended 1-1. Pirates remains at the top of the league table with 59 points and Mamelodi Sundowns trailing behind with 58 points. Kaizer Chiefs is in third place with 47 points.
