JOHANNESBURG — The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) has sponsored 12 South African cosmetics manufacturers to exhibit at the Organic and Natural Products Expo Africa, taking place from 7 to 9 August 2026 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Gauteng.
The three-day hybrid trade event serves as a platform for local enterprises across the health, food, beverage, and personal care sectors to showcase organic and natural formulations to regional and international buyers.
Championing Local Ingredients and Indigenous Innovation
Selected from various provinces across South Africa, the participating cosmetics companies specialize in personal care, cosmeceuticals, and toiletries. A key feature of these enterprises is their utilization of indigenous ingredients and natural formulations—a market segment experiencing robust global demand as consumer preferences shift toward clean, sustainable beauty products.
Participation in the expo gives these manufacturers direct access to key industry stakeholders, potential distribution partners, and retail buyers, helping to bridge the gap between small-scale production and commercial shelf space.
Strengthening the Local Cosmetics Sector

The initiative directly supports the dtic’s broader cosmetics sector strategy, which aims to boost the market presence of locally manufactured goods. Major trade expos address critical structural goals within the industry:
- Retail Integration: Facilitating the uptake of South African-manufactured cosmetic items into primary retail chains.
- Brand Visibility: Elevating consumer awareness around proudly South African products.
- Export Readiness: Positioning local enterprises to meet global sourcing standards.
Unlocking Global Market Opportunities
According to the dtic, leveraging South Africa’s rich biodiversity into high-value consumer goods remains a strategic priority. With international markets actively seeking unique, ethically sourced natural products, local producers are well-positioned to establish a competitive footprint overseas. By connecting regional creators with international procurement networks, the department aims to drive export capabilities and build sustainable growth within the domestic cosmetics value chain.
