Kaizer Chiefs have completed the permanent transfer of forward Khanyisa Mayo from Algerian powerhouse CR Belouizdad for an undisclosed fee. The 27-year-old South African international spent last season on loan at Naturena, winning over the club hierarchy and supporters with his relentless work ethic, attacking pace, and creative threat.
Mayo’s long-term commitment provides a vital boost for head coach Fernando Da Cruz as the Glamour Boys prepare for a high-stakes campaign competing both in domestic competitions and across Africa in CAF tournaments.
Career History: The Journey to Naturena
Football is in Mayo’s DNA. The son of former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs favourite Patrick Mayo, Khanyisa developed through the youth setup at SuperSport United before making his professional breakthrough.
- Early Years (2017–2021): Mayo gained valuable senior experience on loan at Ubuntu Cape Town, followed by brief stints with Maccabi and Royal Eagles. His career accelerated significantly at Richards Bay FC, where he finished as the top goalscorer in the 2020–21 National First Division.
- Cape Town City Breakthrough (2021–2024): Moving to the Premier Soccer League with Cape Town City, Mayo established himself as one of South Africa’s most dangerous attackers, becoming the club’s all-time top goalscorer with 29 goals.
- Continental & Overseas Experience (2022–2025): His domestic form earned him senior international honors with Bafana Bafana in September 2022. In August 2024, Mayo earned a transfer to Algerian giants CR Belouizdad, where he featured in the CAF Champions League before returning to South Africa on loan to Kaizer Chiefs in September 2025.
