Tau Champions South Africa as Key African Investment Hub at Dubai AIM Congress

South Africa’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Mr Parks Tau, has arrived in the United Arab Emirates to lead the nation’s delegation at the annual AIM Congress in Dubai, running from September 7 to 9.

Organized by the AIM Global Foundation, the flagship gathering convenes global political leaders, sovereign wealth funds, and business executives to navigate pressing international economic pressures and unlock new capital flows.

Minister Tau’s presence underscores Pretoria’s strategic push to attract sustainable foreign direct investment (FDI) and position the country as an indispensable gateway to the broader African market. Addressing the gathering, Tau emphasized that foreign investment must deliver structural economic benefits rather than merely temporary financial inflows.

“We recognise that investment is not simply about capital flows,” Tau stated. “It is about building productive economies, creating decent and sustainable jobs, developing industrial capacity, transferring skills and technology, and expanding opportunities for our people.”

Tau highlighted South Africa’s key comparative advantages, pointing to its sophisticated financial institutions, advanced industrial base, strategic continental location, and rich natural resource reserves. These competitive assets form the bedrock of the government’s pitch to global investors looking for stability and long-term yield.

On September 8, the Minister will address the High-Level Ministerial Roundtable on Investment. Convening under the theme “Investment 4.0: Shaping a Resilient and Intelligent Global Economy,” the session will focus on how emerging technologies, supply chain restructuring, and sustainable financing can fortify global economic resilience.

Tau’s diplomatic offensive comes at a crucial juncture as developing nations compete aggressively for high-quality capital in a shifting macroeconomic landscape. By engaging top-tier global investors in Dubai, South Africa aims to convert international interest into concrete industrial capacity, infrastructure growth, and domestic job creation.
