The Senate agreed on a joint resolution to direct the removal of United States Armed Forces from hostilities within or against Venezuela that have not been authorized by Congress.
America has been under much criticism lately following the invasion of Venezuela and abduction of its President Nicolás Maduro and his family; and taking over its oil. Reacting to this, the Senate convened an urgent meeting to address the situation.
A motion to discharge was put forth to halt the military activities taking place in Venezuela. It is reported or alleged that President Donald Trump invaded Venezuela without consulting Congress, but he instead consulted or alerted American oil companies about his plans to invade a sovereign state.
The Senate convened on Thursday, 8 January 2026, from 10am to 14:29pm, after much debate on the matter, the motion was supported by majority vote. The Senate agreed on a joint resolution to direct the removal of United States Armed Forces from hostilities within or against Venezuela that have not been authorized by Congress.
The house voted as follows: Yea 52- Nay 47, not voting 1.
Trump invaded Venezuela in the early hours of 3 January 2026, bombing and killing at least a hundred people. The President further announced the capture of the Venezuelan President and the takeover of its oil. He said the interim leadership of Venezuela will hand over 30 to 50 million barrels of high quality sanctioned oil and the US will control the proceeds from the oil, but Venezuela will also benefit from the money.
He said the oil will be sold at market value and ordered that Energy Secretary Chris Wright execute the plan immediately.
Trump told the media that America will be in charge of Venezuela and threatened the Acting President Delcy Rodríguers to toe the line or face the music.
Trump also echoed his intentions to takeover Greenland, which has sparked serious worry across the globe that the United States of America has gone rogue, violating international laws and undermining the United Nations Charter.
