Reitway Global Shifts AMETF to Daily Disclosure on JSE Alongside Amalgamation

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) has announced a significant shift in South Africa’s listed investment landscape, with the Reitway Global Property Prescient Actively Managed Exchange Traded Fund (RWAGP) transitioning to a daily disclosed Actively Managed Exchange Traded Fund (AMETF).

Originally listed on the JSE on 29 September 2023, the portfolio gives local investors rand-denominated access to global listed property markets. Operating previously under a quarterly disclosure model, the fund now provides daily transparency into its underlying holdings via a portfolio composition file, marrying active management oversight with enhanced portfolio visibility.

Structural Evolution and Amalgamation

Alongside the shift in operational transparency, a major structural consolidation took place. Effective 21 October 2026, the Reitway Global Property Diversified Prescient ETF (RWDVF) was officially amalgamated into RWAGP.

Market participants holding former RWDVF units received participatory interests in RWAGP based on the conversion ratio communicated through the Stock Exchange News Service (SENS). Because RWAGP was already an existing JSE-listed portfolio, the transaction did not constitute a brand-new market listing, but rather an expansion and streamlining of Reitway Global’s product offering under the familiar share code RWAGP.

Adèle Hattingh, Specialist Securities Manager at the JSE, noted that the evolution highlights the maturation of South Africa’s domestic investment products.

“The conversion of RWAGP to a daily disclosed AMETF reflects the ongoing development of South Africa’s listed investment product landscape,” Hattingh stated.

“The structure provides investors with access to a professionally managed global property portfolio through a transparent, exchange traded vehicle, while broadening the range of global diversification opportunities available on the JSE.”

Investment Mandate and Market Context

Managed by Reitway Global, the fund deploys a fundamental, research-led investment philosophy. Its mandate focuses primarily on global real estate securities traded on recognized international exchanges.

The diverse investment universe encompasses:

  • Property shares and Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs)
  • Securities in listed entities underpinned by real estate assets
  • Money market instruments and supplementary investments aligned with global property exposure objectives

This development adds momentum to the broader domestic exchange ecosystem. The JSE currently hosts 142 exchange-traded funds, boasting a collective market capitalisation that surpasses R274 billion.

As local institutional and retail investors increasingly seek robust rand hedges and diversified international property exposure, transparency shifts like daily portfolio disclosure are expected to further bolster confidence in active ETF strategies on the continent’s premier exchange.
