Ramaphosa congratulates Putin on winning elections

The President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa has joined other African state Presidents in congratulating Vladimir Putin for securing another term in office as the President of the Russian Federation.

Putin won the votes amidst a raging war with Ukraine with an overwhelming majority of 89%, an outcome the global west is not pleased to witness. However, the African continent has expressed support and communicated congratulatory messages to President Vladimir Putin for his re-election.

Cyril Ramaphosa also extended his congratulations on behalf of the South African government and the people of the Republic. President Ramaphosa further recalled the commitment of South Africa and the Russian Federation to mutual cooperation at the multilateral level, including the two countries’ common membership of the United Nations, the G20, BRICS and other multilateral bodies.

Ramphosa also affirmed the position of South Africa regarding global peace and security and further committed to continue negotiations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Ukraine to find a lasting peaceful resolution to the current conflict.
