Proteas lose T20 World Cup by seven runs

South Africa played a brilliant game at the finals of the T20 Cricket World Cup against India on Saturday; however, the Proteas fell short of seven runs to win the international tournament.

India started the game off by batting first, they made brilliant runs and striking multiple sixes that gave them an advantage over the Proteas. South Africa also was up for the challenge; they strategically spread out and also closed in on India making brilliant catches.

India had a good run and showed confidence as they were at the finals without having lost a single match, and so were the Proteas. India had 176/7 (20), South Africa was now chasing 177 runs to win the World Cup.

The Proteas made good runs during their batting turn, striking some sixes; the senior men’s team took the game to India and were intent on winning, but India made a few catches, including a controversial one that could have been over the line. South Africa could only achieve 169/8 (20); a devastating blow to the Proteas.

President Cyril Ramaphosa on behalf of South Africa congratulated the team for reaching the finals and their outstanding play, saying the nation is proud of them.

“The nation shares your pain in your fall at the last hurdle, but we thank you for hoisting our flag high on the global stage, playing against India. You have shown resilience and the true spirit that reflects our nation’s pride.

We also offer congratulations to Rohit Sharma and the Board of Control for Cricket in India on their unbeaten run on the way to a well-deserved championship,” said Ramaphosa.
