The Acting Spokesperson for the Deputy President Mr Keith Khoza confirmed to The Business Weekly that there was an attempt on the life of Deputy President Mr Paul Mashatile.
Khoza said the incident took place while the Deputy President was traveling along the N12 in Ekurhuleni, East of Johannesburg; however, Mashatile escaped unharmed.
Reports are that Mashatile was from an ANC NEC meeting that took place at Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg on 30 March 2025 when the incident took place; several shots were fired at his official vehicle.
The matter was kept under wraps for almost a month while investigations continued.
Khoza told The Business Weekly that he is not aware of any arrests relating to the incident yet and that the motive for the attempt on the Deputy President’s life has not been established yet.
Mashatile has been on schedule as per his programme, and the Acting Spokesperson Keith Khoza confirmed that Mashatile’s programme remains unaffected.
