JOHANNESBURG — Former Build One South Africa (BOSA) representative in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Ayanda Allie, has issued a detailed media statement providing her account of the circumstances behind her expulsion from the party.
Allie’s confirmation comes shortly after BOSA announced the termination of her membership following an internal disciplinary process initiated in July 2025. In her statement, Allie outlined a sequence of escalating disagreements over party levies, constituency funding, and internal governance that culminated in her dismissal.
Disputes Over Party Levies and Constituency Funding
According to Allie, friction with BOSA leadership first emerged over the party’s Code of Conduct requirements. She stated that she initially declined to sign a document requiring public representatives to donate an entire month’s salary annually to the party, in addition to a 10% monthly gross salary levy. Following negotiations, the policy was amended to remove the annual full month’s contribution and adjust the monthly levy to 10% of net salary, which she then signed.
However, Allie claimed that relations deteriorated further when she was informed that legislative funding designated for travel and constituency operations would not be made available to her. In response, she chose to withhold the monthly party levy, redirecting those funds toward covering her official legislative duties and community initiatives.
“I withheld the party levy from BOSA and instead used the resources to support the legislative and party political community initiatives for which I took an oath,” Allie noted in the statement.
During subsequent mediation, Allie agreed to resume paying the party levy under the understanding that she could request funding from BOSA for constituency activities going forward. This agreement led to a dispute over back pay, with BOSA asking for two years of outstanding levies while Allie requested reimbursement for personally funded official expenses. While the two parties agreed to calculate and offset these amounts, further disagreements concerning mayoral candidacies prompted a formal disciplinary hearing.
Disciplinary Hearing and Board Decision
At the formal disciplinary hearing, which was overseen by an independent chairperson, Allie admitted to withholding party levies and presented her rationale regarding constituency funding constraints. According to Allie, the independent chairperson determined that her conduct did not warrant dismissal.
However, the BOSA Board of Directors rejected the chairperson’s finding and opted to impose the sanction of expulsion. Rather than appealing the board’s ruling, Allie elected to accept the outcome.
“Rather than appeal the sanction by the Board, I accepted that the party founders no longer wished for me to continue and agreed with their assertion that our relationship had irreparably broken down,” she stated.
Tenure and Highlighted Achievements
Despite her expulsion, Allie expressed gratitude to BOSA leadership, including Dr. Mmusi Maimane and Nobuntu Hlazo-Webster, as well as party members and voters. Reflecting on her time as a Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL) in Gauteng since June 2024, she highlighted several key initiatives undertaken during her tenure:
- Legislative Initiatives: Drafting and introducing the Fair Pay Bill to BOSA, the party’s primary legislative submission currently before parliament.
- Community Advocacy: Spearheading legal interventions for e-hailing operators in Tshwane affected by permit delays, and advocating on behalf of former Pick n Pay Mini Market store owners to secure debt adjustments.
- Oversight and Accountability: Exposing funding irregularities regarding government partnerships with Family Tree Holdings, and facilitating whistleblower engagements that contributed to the dismissal of the former CEO of the Gauteng Gambling Board.
- Local Interventions: Addressing infrastructural sewage failures in Emfuleni, resolving unpaid stipend issues for Tshepisong youth in computer learnerships, and lobbying for wage increases for workers at Gold Reef City.
Allie concluded her statement by reaffirming her commitment to public service and nation-building outside the party structure. BOSA’s board has previously stated that its decision regarding her termination is final following the conclusion of the internal process.
