COPE mourns the death of Mosiuoa Lekota

The Congress of the People (COPE) confirmed to The Business Weekly that its President Mr Mosiuoa Gerard Patrick Lekota has passed in the early hours of Wednesday, 4 March 2026, following a period of illness.

Without giving much details; the party says they are deeply saddened by the passing of their President.

According to the COPE Leader Teboho Loate; the Lekota family has requested privacy during this difficult time, and the party asks the public and media to respect their wishes. He said the party will issue regular media statements to inform the nation about developments.

Loate said further details regarding memorial arrangements and tributes will be communicated in due course.

“On behalf of the leadership, membership, and supporters of COPE, we extend our deepest condolences to the Lekota family and all South Africans who mourn this loss,” said Teboho Loate.
