The leadership of the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) in the Free State is proudly congratulating Metsimaholo Local Municipality for emerging victorious in one of the most contested categories at the SALGA National Communicators Forum.
Metsimaholo was nominated alongside fellow Free State municipality, Mantsopa Local Municipality, which also demonstrated commendable performance and excellence in municipal communication. The two Free State municipalities were nominated together with Msunduzi Local Municipality and Kouga Local Municipality in the highly competitive category of Most Proactive and Responsive Municipality (Local Municipalities Category).
The nomination and subsequent recognition reflect the commitment, innovation, and dedication demonstrated by municipal communication teams in strengthening transparency, responsiveness, and public engagement across local government.
According to Cllr Bongani Lawrence Mathae, SALGA Free State’ Chairperson “The achievement by Metsimaholo Local Municipality represents the growing strength and professionalism of communication practices within municipalities in the Free State. We commend the team for setting a benchmark of excellence that inspires the entire local government sector.”
The Provincial Director of Operations, Ms Emily Kuzwayo, also praised the municipalities for their outstanding performance.
“This recognition highlights the importance of proactive communication in building trust between municipalities and communities. We congratulate Metsimaholo on this remarkable achievement and acknowledge Mantsopa for its strong and commendable participation,” she said.
The awards were announced and celebrated during the National Communicators Forum on 26 February 2026 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, where municipal excellence in communication was honoured nationally.
SALGA said it once again congratulates the Metsimaholo Local Municipality Communications Team on this well-deserved recognition and extends appreciation to all nominated municipalities for their continued commitment to service excellence.
