CENTLEC warns of fake voice note

CENTLEC has dismissed the claims of a voice note making rounds on various platforms on social media as misleading and malicious.

The voice note, of which The Business Weekly is in possession of, the man warns residents that they will not be able to purchase electricity from 8 to 11 August 2024, because of a scheduled network and vending system upgrade by the utility.

The man in the voice note further urges customers to stock up on electricity that will last them throughout the said period of maintenance.

“As CENTLEC (SOC) Ltd, we would like to state it on record that we are not embarking on any network or vending system upgrade at the moment. Our vending system is operating as normal. We urge the community of Mangaung and areas where we supply electricity to ignore this voice note as it is deemed misleading and malicious,” said Lele Mamatu, the Spokesperson for CENTLEC.

“Customers can purchase electricity at all our vending points, including third parties via online platforms at any time of the day without any hustle. Should there be any problem with regard to our services, the community of Mangaung will be informed well ahead of time via our Ward Councilors, website, notices, and social media platforms,” he continued.
