BLOEMFONTEIN — The Board of Directors of Centlec (SOC) Ltd, the electricity utility serving the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, has officially announced the reappointment of Dr. Malefane Sekoboto as Chief Executive Officer, effective July 1, 2026.
The executive transition follows a decisive vote of confidence from local government leadership. The Mangaung Metropolitan Municipal Council formally endorsed Dr. Sekoboto’s appointment during a special council sitting on Monday, June 29, 2026.
Dr. Sekoboto is a familiar face at the helm of the utility, having led the state-owned company for the past five years. In an official statement issued by Board Chairperson Me M. Ntshudisane, the board lauded his previous tenure, noting that he has “led Centlec with distinction, consistently demonstrating outstanding leadership and dedication to our corporate values.”
The extension of Dr. Sekoboto’s mandate comes at a critical juncture for regional energy infrastructure. Utilities across South Africa face escalating operational pressures, demanding stable leadership to navigate grid modernization and revenue collection strategies. The Centlec board indicated that his renewed leadership will be pivotal in steering the utility toward a “new era of innovation, accountability, and service excellence.”
Headquartered in Oranjesig, Bloemfontein, Centlec is responsible for electricity distribution and infrastructure management across the Mangaung region.
