The South African women’s senior team Banyana Banyana will tomorrow on Friday, 25 October 2024, go up against Denmark for the first time in their international games.
As the African Queens warm up for the Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) next year in June, the match against Denmark is important as they will be seeking to gain international experience and game time.
The Banyana Banyana Coach Dr Desiree Ellis told SAFA.net that the team will also use tomorrow’s game and the match against England next week to gain the much-needed international experience ahead of her team’s defense of the WAFCON title in the tournament to be held in Morocco in June 2025.
Banyana Banyana is already in Denmark and getting ready for the game tomorrow. Images of the African Champions in training have warmed up support for the WAFCON defending champions.
Though the team hasn’t played in months, Coach Dr Desiree Ellis expressed confidence in her team as they are busy preparing for tomorrow’s game. She is also not oblivious to possible problems Denmark may give them on the field.
“We haven’t played since early June when we faced Senegal, so we are happy to regroup for these two big tests (against Denmark and England). I am satisfied with how the players committed to our training session yesterday and really showed enthusiasm for this tour in Europe. This match is good because it will remind us of our strengths and help us build as a team. We are very good defensively and we know that Denmark will test us in this area,” Dr Ellis told SAFA.net.
The match will kick-off at 18:00 South African time at the Aalborg Stadium in Aalborg, Denmark. The match, which promises to be a thriller, will be broadcasted live on SABC Sport.
