After six years of serving the Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), the Chief Executive Officer Ms Mpumi Mpofu will leave the company as her fixed contract comes to an end on 30 June 2026.
ACSA announced that it will not be renewing Mpofu’s six year contract, instead, she will be replaced by Mr Charles Shilowa as Acting CEO when she vacates office end of June.
“On behalf of the Board, we thank Ms Mpofu for her dedicated service to Airports Company South Africa over the past six years. She has led the organisation through an unprecedented period within the global aviation sector and has overseen ACSA’s operations and financial recovery while advancing critical strategic initiatives that have strengthened the company’s long-term position. The Board and CEO have agreed on a carefully managed transition, with clear terms of reference and mutual cooperation,” says, Mr Irvin Phenyane, Chairperson of the Board of Airports Company South Africa.
Phenyane says Mr Shilowa currently serves as Group Executive: Capital Infrastructure Asset Management at ACSA, a role he has held since July 2023. Prior to this, he has held several senior leadership roles at Rand Merchant Bank, South African Revenue Services, Sasol Technology and Unilever.
He said Mr Shilowa will work closely with the Board to ensure leadership continuity and the orderly management of the transition, while the Board undertakes a formal process to appoint a permanent CEO.
“Ms Mpofu will continue to serve in her role until the conclusion of her contract and will work closely with the Acting CEO, Board and the executive team to ensure a seamless handover and continued operational stability across the organisation,” explained Phenyane.
The Board has since wished Mr Shilowa success in his acting role.
