Pirates thresh Richards Bay 2-0

Orlando Pirates has once again proven itself the better team on the pitch against visitors Richards Bay at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Wednesday night 11 March 2026.

The Buccaneers were in top form putting pressure on their visitors from the first whistle. Richards Bay was forced to make a save in the 6th minute of the game as the Sea Robbers were searching for an early goal.

Pirates was not letting up, they came back two minutes later to once again stretch the Richards Bay keeper and exploit their defence. The visitors hardly had a chance at goal as the game was heavy for them. They attempted a goal but their efforts were futile.

From a back pass in the box, Oswin Appollis registered the first goal of the game for Orlando Pirates on the 27th minute. The Buccaneers sort to extend their lead but ran out time in the first half.

The game went to break with Pirates leading 1-0.

In the second half, the skull and bones came back with determination to seal the game. They ran at Richards Bay creating threatening opportunities. Richards Bay got an opportunity to level the ground but failed to capitalise on it. The Buccaneers kept their pressure on Richards Bay forcing them into an error in the box and were awarded a penalty.

Evidence Makgopa stepped up and calmly converted the penalty on the 90+ 5 minute sealing it for Orlando Pirates.

Orlando Pirates won the game 2-0 and is now sitting on top of the league table with 47 points, with 15 wins out of 20 matches played.
