Mangaung Executive Mayor to table annual budget

The Executive Mayor of Mangaung Metro Cllr Gregory Nthatisi will this week Tuesday, 27 May 2025, table his budget which will outline his plans for the financial year 2025/26 and the outer years.

The metro, the cream of the Free State province has recently repositioned itself as a bankable investment attraction destination; the City recently hosted an investment summit which attracted business communities and foreign investors exposing them to the diverse opportunities within the municipality.

Nthatisi is expected to make allocation for a number of capital projects including the development of the airport node, roads and critical water and sanitation infrastructure, these project will not only help the metro in growing its economy but will create a number of needed jobs.

The Executive Mayor will most probably also focus on the tourism sector and township economy in the City, he is also expected to give a progress report on the projects the metro has undertaken, including the launch of its bus line, Hauweng which provides cheaper and effective transport for commuters in the City.

Mangaung Metro has become more politically stable and assuring for investors; since assuming office, Gregory Nthatisi has been at pains to professionalise the metro and fill the administrative vacancies in the municipality, he is most likely to give feedback on that regard. The metro has by far had little to none labour protests, an indication that something is working.

However, service delivery remains a challenge for the City, of which the Mayor is expected to take the residents into his confidence and outline plans to overcome this challenge. Nthatisi is likely to present a pro-poor budget that will see the revival of certain sectors and create jobs and attract more investors into the City.
