It’s all eyes on the Free State matric results for the 2025 class; will the province maintain its number one spot for the seventh time in a row? This remains to be seen as the country and the province itself hold their breath.
The Free State Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae and Basic Education MEC Dr Mamiki Maboya will on 13 January 2026, unveil the matric results at the Central University of Technology (CUT) in Bloemfontein. The class of 2025 will get to know their fate on whether they managed to keep the Free State as the undisputed champion of education for the seventh time in a row, or not.

The Free State obtained a 91% pass rate in 2024, topping the country once again for the sixth time. This has been the legacy of the late former MEC for Education MEC Tate Makgoe, who during his tenure topped the charts and always advocated for excellence in the classroom.
Maboya took the baton from Makgoe and ran with it, thus far, the MEC has managed to maintain the number position in the country.
It is also expected that, in the announcements of the matric results, the department will also announce top performing schooling and top performing learners across the province.
