Stellenbosch will now face Orlando Pirates in the finals of the MTN8 after thrashing Mamelodi Sundowns for the second time on Sunday, 1 September 2024, afternoon at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
The Stellies were intent on securing a second win over the Brazilians from the first whistle. They became troublesome for Bafana ba style who lacked inspiration in their play. Stellenbosch applied pressure in the first half but were unlucky not to get a goal.
The match went to break with a goalless draw.
In the second half, the Stellies could already smell the finals as they charged against Sundowns and were rewarded when Lehlohonolo Mojela scored the sole goal of the game in 49th minute.
Stellenbosch was however not done, they wanted to put the game beyond Sundowns’s reach and scored a second goal, but it was unfortunately offside.
The Brazillians tried to get back in the game and had a few chances at goal, but could not convert.
Stellenbosch won the match 1-0 and 2-0 on aggregate and will now face Orlando Pirates in the finals.
The Sea Robbers went through to the finals after beating Cape Town City 2-0 in Soweto, at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.
