Mamelodi Sundowns has confirmed that it has reached an amicable agreement with its Head Coach Rulani Mokwena to go their separate ways after a successful season.
Without revealing much, the club says its Board has decided to let go of Mokwena based on their objectives and expectations of the club. Sundowns says the decision was an independent one and was not influenced by any individual associated with the club.
“Coach Manqoba Mngqithi and the Technical Team will continue to lead and take control of the training and preparation of the players for the upcoming season.
Mamelodi Sundowns is preparing and focusing on competing in all the upcoming competitions and is honoured to be one of four Football Clubs representing the African Continent in the historic FIFA Club World Cup 2025,” said the Club.
Rulani Mokwena has bid his heartfelt farewell to the players and fans. He said his journey going forward is filled with joy, kindness and success. The departing coach reflected on the moments of his stay at the club and interaction with the players, on how inspirational they are and the impact they have on him.
“Reflecting on the milestones we have achieved together- the league titles, the cups, the remarkable records broken, and the historic victories. I am reminded of the great work we did together fuelled by teamwork, resilience, and unwavering dedication. Each triumph and failure was a testament to the collective effort of everyone involved, and I am humbled to have been part of this incredible journey with you,” said Rulani Mokwena.
Mamelodi Sundowns has since wished him all the best in his future journey.
