Special votes went well

The Electoral Commission (IEC) in the Free State Province says the special votes have gone smooth and is happy with the turnout of voters and the execution of special votes that kicked off on 27 May 2024.

The Commission says by the end of day one, about 14 735 special votes were processed at 1 440 service points. A total of 14 442 voters were visited by 1 528 officials from the Electoral Commission, accompanied by political party agents and observers, where they are available.

On the second day by 13:00, the officials had visited 4 592 voters in their homes and 6 115 came out to cast their votes. Voting was closed by 17: 00 on Tuesday, 28 May 2024. The IEC has also appealed to members of the community who were registered for special votes but could not make it to cast their ballots during general elections today.

“All special votes collected are stored securely overnight on 27 and 28 May, will be transported to voting stations on 29 May, to be opened, reconciled and added to the ordinary ballots cast on 29 May before counting begins,” said the IEC.
