By The South African sporting fraternity has been plunged into mourning following the tragic death of legendary racing driver Robert Wolk, who was killed in a road rage shooting incident in Kempton Park. Spanning nearly three decades, Wolk’s illustrious career cemented his status as an iconic figure in national motorsport.
Renowned for his fierce competitiveness and immense talent, he captured numerous prestigious national titles, including back-to-back South African GTC (Global Touring Cars) championships and spectacular victories at the iconic Simola Hillclimb.
The Gauteng Provincial Government expressed deep shock over the violent loss of a true ambassador for the sport. Responding to the incident, Premier Panyaza Lesufi condemned the senseless act of violence that cut the champion’s life short.
“The tragic and violent death of Robert Wolk, a true ambassador for South African motorsport, has deeply shocked our province,” said Premier Lesufi. “Road rage and senseless violence have no place in our society”.
Law enforcement acted swiftly in the wake of the tragedy. Police have confirmed the arrest of three suspects in connection with the fatal shooting. Premier Lesufi commended the South African Police Service (SAPS) for their rapid and decisive response in apprehending the individuals allegedly linked to the crime, expressing confidence that the full force of the law will ensure justice is served.
“We are grateful for the swift and decisive response of the South African Police Service in arresting suspects linked to this tragedy, and we trust that the full force of the law will ensure justice is served,” Lesufi added. “Our province mourns alongside the Wolk family during this devastating time”.
