Announced on Friday—exactly one year out from kick-off—the fixture marks only the fourth time in history that South Africa and Fiji will meet on the international stage. For the defending world champions, the clash will serve as the final launching pad before they embark on their 2027 Rugby World Cup campaign in Australia.
The Road to the World Cup
The four-time world champion Springboks will open the defence of their global crown just over two weeks after the Gosford encounter, taking on Italy in Adelaide on Sunday, 3 October.
Springbok head coach Rassie Erasmus welcomed the fixture, emphasizing the quality and physical threat that the Pacific Islanders bring.
“Fiji are a quality team who have consistently tested some of the top sides in the world over the last few years, and they proved that they can be a force to be reckoned with by advancing to the quarter-finals of the 2023 Rugby World Cup,” Erasmus said.
“They are one of the top 10 ranked teams in the world, and they are a physical and talented side who will undoubtedly want to take full advantage of the match, similarly to us, before the Rugby World Cup kicks off.”
The match also holds a sense of nostalgia, reviving a rivalry last seen in Gosford back in 2004. Both squads plan to embed themselves deeply within the local community, setting up high-performance training camps on the Central Coast leading into and following the Test match.

However, with polytec Stadium capped at an intimate 20,000 seats, demand is anticipated to reach fever pitch.
