JOHANNESBURG — The stage is officially set for the South African Football Association (SAFA) Elective Congress after CEO Lydia Monyepao formally handed over all nomination files to the Association’s independent Governance Committee on Wednesday.
The high-stakes administrative process began at SAFA House, where Monyepao presented the candidate documents in front of members of the media. The move officially kicks off the vetting period for the executive committee positions being contested at next month’s elective congress, which is scheduled for 12 September 2026.
The handed-over files represent all nominations submitted by the official deadline on 29 July 2026.
“The aim of this Press Conference was to hand over all the files with all the nominations that we have received on 29 July 2026, which was the deadline for the submission of nominations for various positions within the SAFA executive committee,” said Monyepao.
The responsibility now falls squarely on the shoulders of the independent Governance Committee, chaired by Victor Mogajane, alongside committee members Tumi Dlamini, Abel Ramolotja, Shakespeare Hadebe, and Anzel Laubscher. The body is tasked with scrutinizing every application to ensure all candidates meet the strict nomination criteria outlined in the SAFA statutes.
With the clock ticking down to the September elective congress, Mogajane emphasized that his team is ready to operate under tight deadlines to ensure integrity throughout the process.
“The SAFA Elective Congress is on 12 September 2026, and we have almost four weeks to work on these files before you,” Mogajane stated. “Our submission will be probably around 28 August 2026, and so we will hit the ground running in that regard. We really appreciate that we have been entrusted with this responsibility once more in 2026.”
With the Governance Committee set to deliver its final findings by late August, South African football stakeholders will be watching closely as the official lineup of candidates vying to lead the football body is finalized.
