DURBAN — High-level ministerial talks will draw to a close this Friday, August 14, 2026, paving the way for the 46th Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit in KwaZulu-Natal.
The SADC Council of Ministers, a key statutory body overseeing the strategic policy direction of the 16-member regional bloc, is wrapping up its final deliberations ahead of the gathering of regional leaders scheduled for August 16–17 in Durban.
South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, will deliver the closing address in his capacity as Chairperson of the Council of Ministers. His remarks are expected to outline the foundational priorities, policy frameworks, and regional agendas formulated during the ministerial sessions—decisions that will directly inform the upcoming discussions among heads of state.
The summit comes at a critical juncture for Southern Africa as leaders seek to strengthen regional integration, economic cooperation, and joint security responses. The preliminary ministerial sessions play an essential role in drafting resolutions and harmonizing positions across member states prior to high-level diplomatic signing ceremonies.
Ahead of the executive assembly, media engagements are set to commence over the weekend. A dedicated press reception will be hosted on Saturday, August 15, starting at 17:00, aimed at enhancing transparency and fostering press collaboration. The event will feature the premiere of a new documentary highlighting SADC’s history, milestone achievements, and ongoing regional initiatives.
