The resulting widespread blackout abruptly cut off electricity to Rand Water’s Eikenhof Booster Station—one of the utility’s crucial bulk water pumping facilities.

Although electricity supply has since been fully restored by City Power, the operational interruption at Eikenhof forced a sudden halt in bulk pumping capacity. Bulk water distribution systems rely heavily on sustained pressure and continuous inflow; even brief power outages can depress reservoir reserves to precarious levels, triggering prolonged recovery periods.
