Momentum Builds for Citizen-Led National Dialogue as Mashatile Applauds Steering Committee Progress

Deputy President Paul Mashatile met with the National Dialogue Steering Committee to review ongoing multi-sectoral preparations aimed at shaping an inclusive and credible future for South Africa.

Over recent months, various social segments have hosted dynamic dialogues and sector consultations, reflecting a deep-seated public willingness to tackle national challenges head-on.

Key milestones presented to the Deputy President include:

  • Youth Sector Mobilization: The youth demographic has formalized its own coordination framework, cleared internal organizational hurdles, and kicked off preparations for upcoming youth-led discussions.
  • Disability Inclusion: The sector representing People with Disabilities successfully ran consultations, delivering essential recommendations focused on broader accessibility and active participation.
  • Broad Civil Society Support: Civil society, faith-based groups, women, and youth organizations have shown an unwavering commitment to mobilizing local communities for the broader National Dialogue.

Pilot dialogues have proven that ordinary citizens are eager to constructively engage with structural hurdles and propose practical solutions. Meanwhile, provincial governments and local stakeholders have lent vital logistical support—spanning security coordination, regulatory approvals, and transport logistics—showcasing the strength of a whole-of-society model.

Emphasizing that the initiative ultimately belongs to the populace, Deputy President Mashatile urged the committee to maintain absolute credibility and inclusivity. Looking ahead following the Local Government Elections, he stressed that the Steering Committee’s core focus must shift toward resolving outstanding governance and participation matters.

He called on every sector to finalize its implementation frameworks, mobilization strategies, and dialogue methodologies to ensure the initiative translates into actionable change.
